Several of my landscape technicians and I volunteered our time and professional skill this past Compton day to install an irrigation system and an assortment of plants for the main entrance planters of Whaley Middle School in Compton. It was such a blessing to see my everyday crew work side by side with my church and other people, all in one spirit and with the only intention to LOVE, and love with our very best talents. Serving the city of Compton has really blessed the morale of Angels Landscape. We can’t wait for the next Compton Day!

Three years ago I was asked to be a part of this initiative they were starting in Compton. They were going to paint houses and clean up trash. I asked myself “why me?” since I don’t live in Compton, work in Compton, and I really don’t know anyone in Compton. I did know that Compton has a reputation for gangs and violence and it was not a place I visited very often; however, a wise man once told me that if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. I don’t want to look back on my life and say I was part of the problem because I did not get involved.
Three years later I can say I have really enjoyed working in Compton because I am now friends with some really great people there, including business owners, church people, city employees and even a very special police officer. I know for a fact good people live, work, and love the City. I know these people by name and we are friends. I will never put a timeline on my friendship but I am personally committed to the Compton Initiative for the next 40 years.
